TSA discovers dog in luggage sent through airport security

This incident follows the discovery of a live cat inside a bag at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport last month. This prompted @TSA_GreatLakes to confirm the proper way to travel with your pet, in their post.

Reports by Nexstar suggest that the passenger was seemingly unaware of screening protocol and neglected to alert the Transportation Security Officers that there was a small dog in a backpack. The passenger was allowed to proceed to her gate after her bags were cleared.

Travelling with your dog in SA

LIFT is one of the few dog-friendly carriers in Mzansi that allow your fur baby to share the seat next to yours on the flight. But that’s not to say you can carry your precious pooch into the flight in your carry-on luggage:

  • To comply with airport security procedures‚ all dog carriers and passengers must be security screened.
  • You will be required to temporarily place the care of your furry companion with airport security while you clear security formalities and make your way to the boarding gate.
  • A LIFT representative will collect your dog from airport security and will be waiting at the aircraft‚ ready to reunite you with your furry friend.
