LIFT is onboard with your pup em-barking
SA's most flexible airline, LIFT, have specific "dog-friendly flights" which allow you to take your four-legged furry friend on board with you. Your dog can travel with you in a pet-friendly carry bag placed under the seat in front of you. However, at this stage, they only allow small dogs.
Vetting
All dogs that travel on LIFT go through a very sensitive vetting process to make sure that all requirements are met.
Criteria include:
- the size of the doggie,
- the size and appropriateness of the doggie carrier bag,
- doggie should be older than 10 weeks,
- doggie should be not pregnant,
- and all doggie vaccinations must be up to date.
It's advised that pups must be fed no later than 4 hours before departure to avoid nausea & 'soiling' their carrier.

Harold, a little dog, owned by LIFT’s co-founder, Gidon Novick, was the first dog to fly on LIFT and has been a frequent traveller since. Harold swiped right and matched with Hazel, Gidon's other fur baby in JNB, and caught a LIFT to visit her for the first time. It was love at first flight! (Video)
