Just like humans, our pets deserve to indulge in scrumptious and healthy delights. Whether you have a famished feline, a munching mutt, or any other peckish pet, we’ve gathered a tasty collection of recipes to spoil and nourish them!

 

Doggy Dinner

Ingredients:

  • 500-700g lean beef mince
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 1 apple, cored and diced
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 slices of white bread, torn into pieces
  • 1 cup of regular rolled oats
  • 1 cup of wheat germ
  • 30 ml of tomato puree/paste
  • 4 medium potatoes, cubed
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 1 stalk of celery, cubed

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Coat a large pan with oil and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the mince, chopped celery, grated carrots, apple, eggs, bread, oats, wheat germ, and tomato paste using your hands. Divide the meat mixture into four equal parts and make loaf shapes (you can use a mould). Place the loaves in the roasting pan. Surround them with the potatoes, chopped carrots and cubed celery. Cover the pan with a lid.
  3. Bake for 80 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the meat is cooked through. Allow to cool.
  4. Portion the food into containers with one loaf and one quarter of the vegetables in each one. Refrigerate. To serve, give your dog ⅓ of a container with each portion of dry food.

 

Bird Bites

Ingredients:

  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup of raisins
  • 1 apple, cored and diced
  • 1½ cups of oatmeal, cornflakes, granola, or a similar cereal

Directions:

  1. Pierce the skin of the sweet potato several times with a fork. Cook it in the microwave on high power until tender (5 to 9 minutes). Turn the sweet potato over halfway through the cooking time. Allow it to cool until cool enough to handle.
  2. Peel the sweet potato and place the flesh into a large mixing bowl. Add mixed vegetables, banana, raisins, apples, and oatmeal. Mix with an electric mixer on high speed until the vegetables have been reduced to tiny pieces and the mixture is thoroughly combined. If the mixture is too dry, add a little water until soft enough to roll into balls.
  3. Line a tray with baking or waxed paper.
  4. Roll the mixture into marble-sized balls and place them onto the prepared pan. Feed Tweetie one now, then place the tray into the freezer until completely frozen.
  5. Remove treats from the tray and store them in a resealable plastic bag. Defrost treats before serving.

 

Kitty Cakes

Ingredients:

  • cooking spra
  • 1 can of tuna, drained
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg white
  • ⅛ teaspoon of shredded mild Cheddar cheese
  • 4 peeled, cooked shrimps

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Spray 2 muffin tin cups with cooking spray.
  2. Combine tuna, flour, egg white, and Cheddar cheese in a bowl. Fill the prepared muffin cups equally with the mixture.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Let cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Garnish cakes with shrimp.

 

Bunny Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup of rabbit pellet dry food
  • ¼ cup of oatmeal
  • ½ a banana
  • 1 carrot (or ½ a cup of baby carrots)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 160ºC.
  2. Blend the pellets and oatmeal together. Mash the banana and puree the carrot.
  3. Combine all ingredients and knead them into a dough.
  4. Roll out onto a clean surface and use cookie cutters or a knife to cut out your desired shapes.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes, then turn off the oven, leaving the treats in for another 30 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool completely.

 

Reptile Refreshment

Ingredients:

  • Natural reptile pellets
  • Pumpkin or butternut squash (mashed)
  • Cranberries
  • Reptile vitamin/calcium powder of choice

Directions:

  1. Moisten pellets and mash them into a crust on a paper plate.
  2. Spread mashed pumpkin/butternut in an even layer on top of the pellets.
  3. Garnish the top with cranberries and vitamin powder – bon appétit!
