Shelter pets are thrown a lifeline thanks to R300,000 donation from dotsure.co.za
While it may feel as though life as we know it has stopped for the foreseeable future, NGOs and animal shelters are having to continue to operate, with limited resources during these difficult times. When faced with such uncertainty and turmoil organisations such as these are often unintentionally forgotten.
“Despite our lives having changed, there are still pets who get lost and those who need medical attention,” says David Roache Managing Director of dotsure.co.za. “We all know that when times are tough economically the first thing to go are public donations, so shelters have seen a decline in these, plus since the beginning of lockdown no adoptions have been able to take place. That is why it’s so important we continue to support organisations such as the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), who despite the lockdown continue to help animals in need.”
A long-time partner of the AACL, dotsure.co.za has just donated R300,000 to the organisation. This comes off the back of the very successful Night Walkies event in Johannesburg, which was held on the 29th of February. Over R100,000 was raised for the AACL on the night.
“We’ve had an amazing relationship with dotsure.co.za for many years now and we’re continually astounded with their phenomenal support for the animals in our care. With the pandemic that has gripped the entire world, and the challenging times that lie ahead, we have been inundated with stray pets and emergency situations, and we do not see this slowing down anytime soon. This donation of R300,000 is huge for us and is going to dramatically assist us to continue to help the community, and to continue to focus our efforts on care and protection,” says Carren Nickloes AACL Marketing Manager and long-time friend of dotsure.co.za.
“Our fans (policy holders) hold a special place in our hearts and we are extremely thankful for their continued support. If it were not for them, we would not be able to help the AACL and their initiatives. Organisations like these rely solely on funds from corporates and the community, and the hardships the country, and the whole world, is currently facing, means they’re even more in need of our help.”
Roache explains that at the forefront of dotsure.co.za’s business is the quest to improve the well-being of all animals. Initiatives by dotsure.co.za allow them to regularly make donations to the AACL. “We share the same passion for all animals’ well-being as our customers and naturally wanted to include them in our initiatives. When a pet parent takes out a dotsure.co.za pet policy online, they are helping to feed an AACL shelter pet for an entire month. We cannot do this without our amazing pet family, and we cannot thank them enough for helping us make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable shelter pets.”
