Roses are red
Violets are whatever
Feed me some tuna
It’s been forever

Okay, cats might not be good at poetry… Or be particularly affectionate… Or be allowed into Michelin-starred restaurants… But your cat can still be the perfect Valentine’s Day date!

If you’re fed up with booking four weeks in advance for a tedious blind date with a lad or lady you don’t know from catnip, look no further than your purrty partner who already loves you unconditionally – even if they don’t show it.

Here are our top five reasons why your cat will make the purr-fect Valentine:

1. They will never break your heart

Your cat might scratch your furniture, your hands, and well, anything else they can get their little paws on – but the one thing that they’ll never leave claw marks on is your heart!

According to Psychology Today, research suggests that cat owners are less likely to pass away from heart attacks. Other studies confirm that loving a cat can lower your blood pressure, reduce stress and improve immune functioning.

2. They're not impressed by fancy dinners

You don’t need to spend the entire day cooking a romantic meal for two or try to impress them with bubbly from France. They're not about that lifestyle. You can keep it simple – feed your cat a tuna treat or three and they’ll eat out of your hands.

Try this quick tuna treat recipe to melt your cat's heart:

INGREDIENTS

  • Can of tuna
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup oat flour
  • 1/2 Cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp catnip

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Apply grease to the baking tray.
  2. Put all the ingredients in a blender. Mix until smooth.
  3. Roll into small ½ teaspoon balls and place onto the baking tray. Flatten with a fork.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Let it cool down and serve to enjoy.

3. Your cat wears their heart on their fleece

Your cat doesn’t pretend to like you (although sometimes you wish they would), and they don’t try impress you with designer swag.

Cats are always true to themselves and, like small furry Gordon Ramseys, they aren’t afraid to let you know exactly how they feel about the new food you thought they wouldn’t notice, your stinky new perfume, and everything else under the sun. It’s one of the reasons we love them so much.

Cats live in the meow, not in the future – that’s why they won’t ask you boring questions about the future of your relationship.

4. They belong on the catwalk

Cats are beautiful, even without makeup. “Sleek or fluffy, in every breed and every colouration, cats possess unique charm and appeal”, states PetMD.

Your cat Valentine will look straight into your soul with their piercing eyes, and it's impossible not to fall head over heels for their majestic features and cuddly coats.

Research has proven that petting a cat causes a release of the “love hormone” in humans. The technical term for this is oxytocin, a hormone that is released when Cupid's love arrow strikes you.

Oxytocin has also been proven to increase your emotional perception! This allows you to better connect with other humans and reduce stress. Ahh, cat therapy gives you all the feels you knead for a budding romance.
