A “Ruff Night” for 14 volunteers in a cold dog kennel!
August 21, 2019
On Saturday, August 2nd, 2019, fourteen brave volunteers joined Ruff Night 2019 – a fundraising event for Puppy SOS KwaZulu-Natal. As part of the initiative, each volunteer had to spend 15 hours with a shelter dog and give up the warmth and comfort of their own beds in exchange for a cold, concrete floor. The “snuggle” was real!
The goal of the initiative was to raise funds for Puppy SOS KwaZulu-Natal, a rescue shelter for abused and surrendered dogs in Durban. As a gesture of their support, animal lovers could donate money to a volunteer-and-doggy-pair of their choice, which would then directly go towards the rescue shelter’s account. For one night, volunteers experienced what life must be like for abandoned animals left homeless and lonely without the love and care of a forever family.
Kirsten McCarthy, a Business Development Representative from dotsure.co.za Pet Insurance, was the leader of the pack as she managed to raise a total of R6,339 in donations. dotsure.co.za then matched it, which pushed Kristen and her four-legged “roommate” into first place with a combined total of R12,678 in donations towards Puppy SOS KZN.
Kristen shared the kennel with a gorgeous and even-tempered dog named Indiana, who has been a resident at the shelter for almost 2 years. Her family abandoned her by throwing her out of the car, and as heart-breaking as it is, she tried to chase them as they drove away. She was also pregnant! Indiana is still in desperate need of a loving human family and is up for adoption at the rescue shelter.
If you want to adopt Indiana or another adorable furry friend, please contact Puppy SOS at email@example.com With the support of our animal-loving community, we can home all abandoned and abused rescue animals! It only takes one special person to forever change the life of an animal in need.
